Red Monkey Coming to Crabtree

A new restaurant called Red Monkey is now showing on Crabtree Valley Mall’s map. Apparently it will occupy space on both levels, just to the left of the Belk mall entrance. No word on what the restaurant is about. There is a Red Monkey in India, but unless this is a high-end, chic Indian restaurant, there probably is no relation.

Has any business thrived in that location at Crabtree over the last 20 years? Not that I can remember.

I think it’s a high end Japanese restaurant with a neighborhood feel. From what I hear, they’re in London and event have a few karaoke stations.

Two people have sent in info that it would be a “Gastro pub, lots of carolina beers, TV’s, way above average pub food, etc”. This sounds much like the Crabtree Tavern, which has been a big success. It would also replace Ruby Tuesday as a moderately priced restaurant in the mall, something sorely needed.

What is interesting is the two story thing. Spaces on the upper and lower floors are available. It makes sense to put this kind of restaurant on the second level, right in the row with PF Changs, Cheesecake Factory, Brio, etc. The space upstairs isn’t that big, though. It’s probably the size Ruby Tuesday was, but not the size of Crabtree Tavern. Perhaps they will put the kitchen downstairs and dumb-waiter the food upstairs??? Hmm.

I had wondered if thats what they were doing as they reworked the stairs and the downstairs area near where Pharos (I think that was it) was on the Belk end. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the blocked off areas were interestingly stacked.

So all the cool new Crabtree restaurant designs are two story? Notice the Kanki is doing something similar with the Torii Torii section upstairs. Not exactly sure what its about though as the space is just a box with an elevator right now. My wife wondered if it would be a take out outlet for Kanki. If so, I can’t wait for traffic to be even more fubared up there as you know idiots will just stop their cars and leave them right at the front of the mall to get their food.

I think the old Ruby Tuesday space has been turned into a North Face store.

Nevermind.. Misread your last post. Looking at the crabtree map it looks the first floor may be nothing more than another entrance. Probably not, hmm I don’t know.
