WUNC To Broadcast “Festive”, and Other NCSO Performances
Tonight at 10pm WUNC (91.5 FM) will rebroadcast the performance a few months ago of "Festive Overture" by the NC Symphony. Unfortunately there are no clothing changes during the percussion solo.
The North Carolina Symphony and WUNC 91.5FM have partnered to present great music for a summer evening all season long. From now until August 29, favorite Symphony performances will be broadcast every Monday night from 10:00 p.m. to midnight and stream online at wunc.org .
Legendary broadcaster David Hartman hosts a program of music recorded live in Raleigh’s Meymandi Concert Hall, as well as interviews and insights into some of the finest compositions ever written.
Tonight’s program features Music Director Grant Llewellyn and guest pianist Peter Donohoe in a concert program that celebrated the Symphony’s tenth anniversary in Raleigh’s Meymandi Concert Hall.
SHOSTAKOVICH: Festive Overture, Op. 96
LISZT: Piano Concerto No. 2 in A Major, Op. 23
SHOSTAKOVICH: Symphony No. 10 in E minor, Op. 93
“The horn section was terrific,” wrote William Thomas Walker in the online journal CVNC following the concert’s live performance in February. “The brass played with superb precision and gorgeous tone, and the trumpets excelled whether playing in the showy fanfare or in some quiet and subtle passages. The trombones firmly anchored the bass end of the spectrum. The string sections’ elegance was displayed whether long-breathed melodies were played or fast-paced sections were cleanly articulated.”
North Carolina Symphony broadcasts on WUNC 91.5FM are supported by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. Learn more about tonight’s program and upcoming broadcasts at wunc.org/programs/north-carolina-symphony-concert-series .
