As you know, the current ordinance on the books does NOT AlLOW food trucks. The proposed changes WILL ALLOW food trucks (with certain limits). So without these proposed changes, there would be no food trucks at all in DT Raleigh. Lots of 2 acres or larger can have unlimited food trucks (I wounder how much land Big Boss and LoneRider are on?). I know some will argue that these changes don't go far enough, but they certainly open the door for food trucks in DT Raleigh and provide an opportunity that currently does not exist. I am a fan of the food trucks but don't see these text changes as overly restrictive.

Restaurants provide so much more of a positive impact for the greater population. We all need to make sacrifices and not eating at food trucks may be just another sacrifice that will allow other aspects of society to function properly. Restaurants compete for every single customer and cannot afford to have their prospective customer base diluted among the various trucks that pop up all over the place. Restaurants spend almost $1million in construction which boosts the economy. They provide architects, planners, and engineers with design work to keep them in business. They provide anywhere from 10-100 jobs for the community. Restaurants are more than just the meal you eat from them. Food trucks threaten this, and cherry pick on what restaurants have to go through to serve food. Sure food trucks may be more efficient, but we need to question the impact they have by being allowed to bypass all of the other hurdles that other businesses must overcome to serve the community. I promise that if food trucks are allowed to operate with little or no regulation, McDonald's and Burger King will find a way to use food trucks more efficiently, and as soon as they do that, the whole world will start complaining about food trucks. Regulation is ok when it helps set some guidelines for an industry that could get out of hand real quickly.

This will totally kill people like Big Boss and Lonerider breweries from having more than one truck if that even though they are so far away from any competing restaraunt it is not even funny. Even in the middle of an office park, unless all the various buildings are owned by the same entity (which they almost always are not) and they have additional parking over what is called for in the code, they cannot have food trucks?
