With the dark paint scheme inside and out, it looks like a closed storefront from inside the mall and is not inviting at all to come in and browse. Couple that with the fact that they took out so much stuff with the redesign, there is hardly anything worth going in to look at any more, unless you are planning on doing a complete redesign of a room or your house. Too much focus on the big stuff and not enough on small pieces and nick-nacks. Their catalog is great and has a huge variety (though they certainly are not competing for the low end.) Maybe they will live on as catalog only if they can't re-find their niche in storefronts. As far as home goods, I'm telling you, what Crabtree needs is a Sur la Table. There is one in Charlotte and one in Richmond. Surely, this area can support one if Richmond can.

Seconded.

The last time I visited the Crabtree store, all I could think about was how far the brand had fallen (and the terrible store design). As far as the economy goes, the prices at Restoration Hardware never changed from their boomtown days (some sales would've helped).
