We sat in the bar and walked into Topo TWO times to see if RB was there. We were there from 5:15 to 6:45 and our meal was a 10, incl service.

Sounds like Alinea is worthy of “amazing” status. I just have a problem with people describing a seat on a bus with that word.

Wife had a conference here this week so we used it as a mini-vacation.

It is a shame you can’t partake in Alinea. It was, without a doubt, the greatest culinary experience we’ve ever had (or should I just say “AMAZING!”, jk). Achatz may very well have ruined every other restaurant for me. Mind-blowing…

I made the trek to Hot Doug’s by myself Saturday. 40 minutes of buses/walking and an hour wait in line (even at 10:30am) was not worth it. The duck fat fries were phenominal, especially for just $3.50 a basket. I had a classic chicago dog, the well-known foie dog, and a lamb curry dog with spinach raita and feta. The foie surprised me in being my least favorite (those flavors in that texture, I think). Lamb curry was killer and the classic was, well, classic. All in all, not quite worth the $23 plus commute, but it was a memorable experience (and a foodie merit badge for sure).

Dinner tonight was at Rick Bayless’s Topolobampo Food gets a 10, service a 5: 3 hours for four courses, failed to refill glasses, ordered glass of wine arrived after an entire course, forgot Danielle’s dessert. Oh well, the food was still killer. Frontera Grill might be the better option. I do recommend Xoco for breakfast: special was an empanada, real hot chocolate, and churro for $6. * Heh, just realized via twitter that we were eating at Fronter/Topolo a the same time. Go figure.

Had an Italian beef sandwich and Mr. Beef. Eh, I thought homemade was just as good (except their giardenia is far superior).

Cafe Spiaggia was very good, but I don’t get too excited over pasta anymore. Best gelato ever (especially the mint, insanely refreshing).

Get the kids to the Museum of Science and Industry. Loads of fun and they will be exhausted by the end of the day.

I just moved to Raleigh from Chicago two weeks ago and I already miss it. If you have time hit up Hot Doug’s. The sausages and duck fat fries are well worth the wait. Another amazing place is Revolution Brewery in Logan Square (my old hood). The beer and food are local and awesome. It is a neighborhood place where you can take the family.

Thanks to gogoraleigh I hope to discover new favorite places to go and see.

Cheers!

We’ll be seeing Justin Beiber on Sunday night, so expect a little more of that kind of thing.

Hope to hit Chutney Joe’s, arch boat tour, Frontera, and Doc Severinsen live today.
