Catapano Retires from Sanderson
After 36 years in the Wake County Public Schools, one of the county’s legends in youth sports retired at the end of the school year. Bob Catapano began his career here as a math teacher at Martin Middle School, but soon moved to Sanderson where he was a math teacher, Men’s Soccer Coach, and for 27 years, was Athletic Director.
His overall record was an impressive 363-44-21 (.873), including 195 shutouts, 17 conference championships, and a national record-setting 103 consecutive games without a loss. Under Catapano, Sanderson brought home nine NCHSAA State Championships and two co-state championships.
