We went to eat there about 2 days after it opened, and all I can say is that the owners should've waited until they got better staff to open. We were a party of 7, and the service was terrible. The menu is in Italian, but the waitress didn't know Italian. We had to actually point to what we wanted on the menu because she didn't understand what we were saying even though I used to live in Italy and speak Italian well. Why not just put everything in English if you're not going to make sure that the staff can understand the dishes in Italian. We were hungry when we arrived, and by the time we got our food, we were starving. We didn't get our food until an hour and 30 minutes after we ordered it. By that time, we were so frustrated, that we left a friend at the table waiting for our food, while we toured downtown Raleigh. After out tour of Raleigh, we went back to the restaurant, but our food still wasn't ready. Finally, the food came, and one plate was missing. Ten minutes later, the plate came, and it was a salad- how can it take you over an hour to make a salad? When our food finally came,it was lukewarm, and my risotto rice was soggy. One good thing was that the flavor of the sauce was excellent. AS if we hadn't been tortured enough, we ordered coffee- an espresso, and it even came back lukewarm and nasty- how can you mess up coffee????? By then, we didn't want dessert. La Volta is truly a disappointment. It's a beautiful restaurant in the heart of Raleigh. If it doesn't make some changes, it won't be open for much longer. The saving grace, in what sounds like a pretty unfortunate experience, is that the food was good. That leaves hope that with some training and experience the poor service may improve. If this resturant does not get some training for their staff, I suspect they won't be in business very long. I would like to start out by saying the food is very good, when you actually get it. The problem with that is if there is more than one person in your party, chances are you won't be getting your food at the same time. We were left with empty glasses, our waiter disappeared for 30 to 40 minutes at a time. Numerous tables around up left after just having a salad or a drink. The owner and manager were courteous, but never did anything to fix the situation other than ask us to be patient. I would never go back and I know the other people in my party have no intentions of ever returning. All and all a very disappointing experience. We were greeted by our waitor who unfortunately did not speak one word of English, as he has from Cuba (he was fluent in Italian and French though - not helpful in the United States). When he took our drink order he asked us to write our orders down for him - literally he handed us his tablet and pen!!! About 20 minutes later we received our drinks. We ordered our appetizers and after 1 hour (not exaggerating) THREE of us received them, but the other 3 of us to wait an additioanl 20 minutes ours. After our appetizers it took an additional 45 minutes for our entrees to arrive (again 3 people received theirs and the other three waited 25 minutes longer for theirs). While we were waiting for our food the people at the table next to us left after their eating their salads, because they coulnd't stay any longer waiting for their entrees. We didn't even consider dessert - by now we were almost 3 hours into this dining experience (nightmare). We received our bill 45 minutes after requesting it. And when all was said and done we spent 3 hours and 15 minutes having dinner. The shame of it all is that the food is good, but life is just too short to wait so long for a meal. I hope they are able to get their acts together soon... We were a very patient and friendly group, but I doubt others would be so nice about it.
