The Top 200 of the 2000s

top200 Excuse me while I go off topic: Over the past 50 days I’ve been sharing my countdown of the top 200 songs of the decade with my Facebook friends. The countdown is complete , and I’ve compiled the results, complete with YouTube, Rhapsody, and iTunes links. Rhapsody users get the added bonus of being able to immediately play the entire list or add it to their playlist collection. The 2000s weren’t dramatically different than the 1990s, to be honest, but it was a decade full of fantastic music.

Nice list. I know this is YOUR top 200. At a NYE party I went to, the music was from user suggestions of the songs that stuck in their head from the last decade. Rehab from Amy Whinehouse and Hollaback Girl from Gwen Stefani were up there along with some Britney Spears. Justin Timberlake popped up on the radar as did Hoobastank’s The Reason. And some songs that were so close to 99/00 crossover that I didn’t realize they were in this decade.

Yes, I picked the songs, but I will say that I used the WBER (Rochester) year-end countdown lists from each of the last 10 years as my guide, so you would NEVER see any of that Britney Spears crap! Another thing is that this is not necessarily my personal order. #1 is definitely not MY #1, but was so well received by everyone, that it is a legit #1.

Oh my gosh I used to love WBER back when I lived in Rochester. I listened to it all through high school. I am glad they are still around and doing well. Is it still ran through Brockport college?

Yes, it is. I just LOVE that station. They change it up so much and keep it interesting.

    Not Beautiful Day!

In the first few years of HDTV broadcasts, most channels ran no commercials during the broadcasts and CBS used a montage with Beautiful Day as the track for about 3 seasons IIRC. Since there were no HD DVRs then, that song wore out its welcome to me and my wife.

haha! I feel your pain, Lee. Thankfully that song and the whole HD campaign and the ipod campaign were all enough years ago that I’ve been able to revisit it with a fresher look. I really HATE it when media runs good music into the ground. I felt bad for Hootie because they aren’t the ones responsible for our getting sick of them and never wanting to hear them again. It’s these stupid radio and TV people!!
