Bloom Coming to Cary

Food Lion’s “upscale” line of stores, Bloom , will open a store in Cary this coming winter. The store will anchor the new Fairview Village shopping Center, located at the corner of Ten-Ten and Holly Springs Roads ( map it ).

Bloom’s merchandise is not what makes the store special. Rather it is the in-basket scanners, kiosks, and easy-to-reach shelving that makes Bloom interesting. It is nice to see a grocer who is trying some things outside of the carbon copy systems we see in most grocery stores.

They are also opening one at Davis Drive and Morrisville Carpenter.

Another is “coming soon” on Pritchard Road across from Riverwood in Clayton.

I drive by that site about two-three times a week. They have had that “Coming Soon: Bloom” sign there for about six months, but I have yet to see anything but what seems to be a parking lot for the trees. There’s really never any work going on there.

Yes on Holly Springs rd the clearing out of the parking lot began sometime in early 2009. So far they’ve managed to grade and pave a parking lot but thats it. There is nothing even resembling a building yet, so they’d have to work pretty fast to get a store opened by this winter. I’m anxiously awaiting its opening since it does sound like a really cool concept if I can get in and out of a grocery store without standing in check out lines.
