Valvano was working as an announcer for ABC and it was his first time back at State after being let go. He had been diagnosed and everyone knew it was really bad. His speech that day was what I would consider the first version of the ESPN speech and while it had many of the same points, it was more tailored for the Wolfpack Nation. I really think there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
