CAM Files Site Plan
This week a site plan (.pdf) was submitted to the city for the new Contemporary Art Museum (CAM). The 2-story facility is planned for Martin and Harrington streets, and includes 21,064 square feet of space. It is little, but it is a start!

This building and design reflects how pathetic “The Triangle” art scene is and the lack of vision that continues (our art and fountains/water features throughout the city is embarrassing, especially when entertaining friends, family and business associates - it shows our lack of pride and history of our area).
This CAM building is the ultimate embarrassment, the designers should be FIRED!.

Wow, kind of a funky location. Smack in the middle of the warehouse district? I guess it’s “contemporary art”, so maybe that’s not as strange to me as it seems… I would have figured a slightly higher profile location, though.

Really, does there need to be onsite parking???

I will limit myself to saying that I am one of those disappointed people. I loved the previous vision, which included a residential mid-rise. The entire project felt more urban. I can understand why the direction changed - times are rough for most, and CAM is not an exception - but I hope that in the nearest future we’ll see something better for that location.

Meh, this project went from amazing looking to basically just a retrofit of an old warehouse. * yawn *
