George’s Garage Shuts Doors
It’s been a nice 15 year ride for George’s Garage , but according to TBJ , the restaurant has closed. The restaurant’s website reports that a bold, new concept” will be coming soon to the space. Giorgios Bakatsias’ group has historically been focused on Durham and Orange Counties, though it did have one restaurant for a couple of years once upon a time in North Raleigh, Cafe Giorgios. Currently the group includes Parizade (yum), Vita , Vin Rouge , Nasher Museum Cafe , Bin Fifty-Four , Spice Street , and G Loft Lounge .

I can’t say I’m surprised…the last few times I’ve been (at lunch), the food has been mediocre at best and the sanitation grade was an 82.5!!!!!! That is ridiculous for a restaurant of that reputation and price point…heck it’d be ridiculous for a McDonald’s to have a sanitation grade that low.

Wow, that is LOW! Actually it is ridiculous for anyone to score a 90.0 or below. If someone doesn’t care enough to keep things sanitary, then they don’t deserve to be chosen over other restaurants that do care.

Bummer - spent NYE there a few years ago with a member of the Bakatsias family and our college friends and had a great time and really loved the atmosphere. Would’ve definitely gone back if in the area.
