Pita Grill Closes
This is WRONG. American [sic] Pita is not closing. It is alive and kicking. Just went there for lunch to check it out. You should do the same.
I had lunch there today and the owner said that he is not closing and has no idea where anyone got this idea.
Aren’t you the same person who jumped all over another blog for posting about places closing without any real confirmation that it was a fact? It would appear you are guilty of this now as well. It has been pointed out by others that have spoken to the owner that this place is not closing. I have received the same information as well. I think you should modify this blog post to recognize you are just spreading a rumor and not reporting fact. To do otherwise is irresponsible. I thought better of this blog and am dissapointed [sic] to see this lowering of standards here.
American [sic] Pita says they aren’t closing and are angry that someone is posting such….
Anyone else want a shovel?

NBC Gives Eastern Finals “The Heisman”
The Boston Strangler might be more popular than Scott Walker, who put away the Bruins with his series-winning, sudden death goal in the waning minutes of overtime. As the team left the Boston area, the television schedule was being released, and it is an enormous slap in the face of the Carolina Hurricanes. Even though the Canes’ upcoming opponent is led by “ the Face of the NHL, Sidney Crosby â€, NBC has opted to show none , that’s right, NONE of the games in the series. Instead Versus will carry each of the games against Pittsburgh.
- Game 1 – Monday, May 18 at Pittsburgh
- Game 2 – Thursday, May 21 at Pittsburgh
- Game 3 – Saturday, May 23 at Carolina
- Game 4 – Tuesday, May 26 at Carolina

Rock Hall of Fame Concert Announces Lineup
The lineup for the 2nd annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum concert has been announced. The event will take place on September 6 at Cary’s Booth Amphitheatre and features a more contemporary slant this year.
Among the artists scheduled to perform is 2009 Rock Hall Inductee Darryl McDaniels, best known as D.M.C . from the groundbreaking hip-hop group Run-D.M.C.; legendary female rocker Patty Smyth and her 1980s hit making band Scandal ; 94 East , the band widely credited with defining the “Minneapolis Sound,†and whose musical heritage intersects with that of Prince, Morris Day and Andre Cymone, among countless others; alternative rockers Blessid Union of Souls , whose hits include “Hey Leonardo (She Likes Me for Me) and “I Believe;†the pride of Long Island, NY — Nine Days — whose breakout hits “Absolutely (Story of A Girl) and “If I Am†vaulted the band to stardom earlier this decade; Midwestern roots favorite the Freddy Jones Band , whose recently released CD “Time Well Spent†has spawned numerous hits on college radio including the fast-rising singles “Home Thing†and “In a Daydream;†two Southern rock standard bearers that need no introduction — the Atlanta Rhythm Section and the Georgia Satellites ; and finally, Yes drummer Alan White’s latest version of perennial Rock Hall favorite the White Sox All-Star Band , which last year brought the house down with its nearly two-hour set of Yes, Queen, the Hooters and Jimi Hendrix classics.
Rick French, national trustee of the Rock Hall and annual benefit concert chairman, said that other guests have committed to perform and that adding a second stage on the amphitheatre grounds is a strong possibility as a way to accommodate the packed line-up of artists. French also added that plans are being developed for a fireworks display to close the show.
Tickets for the benefit concert go on sale Saturday, May 16 at all Ticketmaster outlets and the Booth Amphitheatre box office
Council Gives City Manager Raise In Woeful Economy
Last week the Raleigh City Council gave City Manager Russell Allen a 5% raise . Instead of $210,000, he will make $220,000 annually (a 57% increase over his original 2001 salary). In other news, North Carolina’s unemployment rate in March was 10.8%, the nation’s 5th worst. The rate for Raleigh/Cary was 8.8%, the national average.
There is no hope for anyone needing more evidence showing how out of touch the Raleigh City Council is. To quote the president,â€"There are American dreams that are being deferred, and that are being denied, because of the current economic climate." Perhaps now is not the time for our city to hold a gun to the taxpayers’ heads, demanding increased salaries for public figures while people are losing jobs in “the worst crisis since the Great Depression.â€
