Circuit City Purchased; Landlords Cross Fingers
On Tuesday Circuit City was purchased by Systemax, Inc “a leading multi-channel retailer of computers, electronics, and industrial products, has purchased the Circuit City brand, trademark, website and other assets. The purchased assets include the customer records of the original Circuit City.”
In the last few days CircuitCity.com was relaunched , and a big sale is now underway. What is interesting is the fact that the Circuit City stores (at least in this area) are still fully lit at nights, including parking lot lights, store interior lights, and signage. It’s understandable that the parking lot lights would be on for safety reasons, but unless the store is still trying to push its brand, there are not many other reasons to be wasting money by illuminating the store and signage, of all things. Perhaps the stores will make a comeback. This would make many landlords, techies, and one President of the United States happy.

Canes Face Stiff Odds
With tonight’s loss, the Carolina Hurricanes fall to a 0-2 deficit in the series with the Pittsburgh Penguins. While I feel great about the Canes chances to win at least one game, (especially considering the goaltender they are facing), it is hard to feel confident about the series now.
The Canes have carried good/excellent D and good O into the series. Pittsburgh has fair D, but outstanding O. The real question is: can the Canes’ D shut down the Pens’ O? If the Canes can, then they can climb back into this series. Unfortunately, only 11% of the teams in this position have actually won the series . These are some incredible odds we’re facing, folks.

“My Name Is Earl” Cancelled
NBC will not renew hit sitcom “ My Name is Earl ” for a 5th season. The show, starring Jason Lee, also features Kinston native Jaime Pressly , and is co-produced and co-written by Raleigh native Bobby Bowman . Showhype.com recently reported that FOX may pick the show up, so we’ll see if Earl gets a second life (much like Scrubs did). Karma has a funny way about it (so I hear).
Woody’s Bar-B-Q Coming to North Ridge
Woody’s Bar-B-Q will soon be opening in the former Hardee’s space in North Ridge Shopping Center. The 31-store, Jacksonville, FL-based chain appears to be presenting a direct challenge to nearby Red Hot & Blue. So, it will be interesting to watch this one as I have recently documented the curious moves occurring in Falls Village.
