NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!

unclogo The North Carolina Tar Heels sealed up their second national championship in five years. This is Roy Williams’ second championship, and the first to do it “with his own players”. The run was one of the most dominant the tournament has seen, with the Heels’ only challenge coming in the third quarter of a second round game versus LSU. Congrats Tar Heels! Next up, the Carolina Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

is this a UNC blog or a Raleigh blog?? Lateley everything is about college basketball and little about Raleigh.

  • Bob

This is a Raleigh blog… and UNC, one of our hometown team’s, just won the NATIONAL basketball championship! This is huge news.

  • Ron T

Alright! Not the most competitive game, but damn if WE did not win it big!

Gosh…I wonder why a lot has been on here lately about college basketball. Hmmm?

  • Eric

Maybe this is a sports blog now. Hopefully we will start getting updates pretty soon on the happenings of events, developments, etc. in the city of Raleigh. I really love coming to this site to check those kinds of things out.

    Eric,
As I sit here staring at my autographed ’74 and ’83 basketballs, I have concluded that you are correct. When a local team is winning one of the most coveted trophies in all of sports, I should be focusing on more ways we can find a mediocre sandwich in Raleigh.
(You DO realize that Raleigh is, by far, the city with the most members of the UNC Educational Foundation and you do understand how many days of salary people donate to this group, right?)
Why on earth would CBS pay six billion dollars for the rights to air this event when they could be focusing on all of the great things that have been happening in Raleigh in the last month? Perhaps you should write their president and ask for CBS to cover First Friday instead.
Given that you have sent exactly ZERO suggestions of what TO cover to scoop@gogoraleigh.com , I’ll simply hold on to your comment for times when I need a good, deep laugh.

  • Eric

Because CBS broadcasts nationally and they “invest” that money to carry the NCAA tourney because they will make money on it, I am sure they give two cents about covering Raleigh. I think you are spot on in what you cover and there is no need for suggestions from me… thats why I visit the site daily to see whats coming up in the city I love. But recently the entries have contained some serious stats/numbers on basketball and every other day was about basketball. Look I understand basketball is important here and you can blog about what you would like. I am just a reader giving feedback and just take it for what you will and keep up the good work.

“When a local team is winning one of the most coveted trophies in all of sports, I should be focusing on more ways we can find a mediocre sandwich in Raleigh.”

You’re right, Dana. I would much rather eat a Jason’s Deli sandwich than hear about UNC winning anything.

  • MikeB

I’d rather get my teeth drilled then hear about UNC winning anything, and unfortunately I had to do both on Wednesday! Though to be fair to Dana, he actually talked about the Hurricanes/Islanders romp well before the Tar Heels ever came up.

UNC winning the National Championship *I just threw up in my mouth* is a very significant story for any blog or news site that discusses the culture and happenings in the Triangle area. It would be negligent not to talk about it.

  • Dana

    Mike,
Thank you for postponing your regurgitation until you were away from the new carpets. :)
Now let’s kick some Sabre booty!
