This “First Friday” will be the last wine and chocolate tasting for Péche de Chocolat in City Market. On March 1st they are moving 14 Glenwood ave, the Carter building ( map it ).

At tonight’s tasting in City Market, there will be some brand new Péché chocolates that have arrived just in time for Valentine’s Day. Pouring will begin at 7:30pm.

Sad to hear that, particularly after The Edison was announced - always a plus to have such a great destination across from where you live  I am not sure I like their new location, but I surely hope they become more successful in the Glenwood South area. Always loved their chocolate and I thought they added value to the City Market area. I will continue to support them, of course - great chocolates!!!

Interesting. Glenwood South may give them more foot traffic…but now they’ll have Escazu nearby as competition in the chocolate business, not to mention other “sweets” competition like Cupcake Shoppe and Turkish Delights.

So not sure if this will be a good move or not. Hmmm…we’ll see.

After this, will there be any place left in the Moore Square/City Market area with desserts or sweets?

I am glad to hear that their chocolate is good. I just noticed the current location recently and have wanted to try it. I agree with Rob that they are going to a more trafficed area, but also with more competition.

It seems like the downtown renanaissance is not including the City Market area as much as I would like. I don’t know much about who owns or operates City Market (if one company does own it), but given the fact that the Greensheild’s location has sat empty for so long and that while downtown picks up this area just sits with little change or pick-up, I think they need to get their act together.

Speaking of City Market: Who is the owner? The city should be all over this owner, lack of progress/new development (do not mention the economy, this owner has done Nothing for years except lose tenants). Would love to see a new owner. Develop that empty parking lot into a 30-40 story apartment building with retail on the first and second floor (extend city market on this side of the block). Big Ed’s is even getting old.

I believe the owner lives in California, so it’s probably not a high priority for him…too bad. I read that some type of banquet facility was going into the old city market building several months ago. Haven’t heard anything about that since. I don’t feel a banquet facility would serve the public very well. It needs something everyone can benefit from.

Never trust a confectioner with an unpronounceable name; you’re liable to end up sampling the crunchy frog or the rams bladder cup.
