Joe’s Place Closes

joes On January 25, 2006, I posted the sad news that Joe’s Place (Featuring Joe’s Mom’s Food) would be closing in weeks. Owner Joe Sciolino later recanted. Three years later Sciolino says he’s had enough . Thanks so much for the 29 years, Mr. Sciolino. You ran a clean business with a lot of personality, and that will be missed.

Now would somebody get on the phone and call Elmo’s Diner , a no-brainer for downtown Raleigh?

Now they can remove all those buildings in that area and build a office/retail/entertainment complex (very ugly area)

It’s a shame. But I’m not surprised. While the prices were good and I liked the location, the food taste reminded me too much of my high school cafeteria.

Elmo’s? That would be freakin’ fantastic. But I think if they ever do finally make the leap into opening a third location and putting it in Raleigh, they’d probably opt for a bit larger space than Joe’s. (Everytime I’ve visited their Carrboro or Durham locations, they were packed like a sardine can.)

I’m beginning to think Tony is trolling on all blogs downtown Raleigh with this tear down everything mentality he has.
