UNC/Duke Documentary Coming to HBO
The previously mentioned HBO documentary “Battle for Tobacco Road: Duke vs. Carolina” will debut Monday, February 23 at 9pm.
“This film will explore how a cross-town rivalry between two prestigious academic universities in North Carolina has escalated into one of the most scrutinized and intense rivalries in college sports,” said HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg. “The regular season showdowns and the ACC Tournament meetings between these two schools have become national events, and we’ll explore how it all started and what it means to have played in one of these contests.”

Should be good. The hype is certainly there, but sometimes I don’t think other places get the magnitude of the rivalry or tobacco road in general, and the longevity of how competitive both teams are, year in and year out.
Comparison:
Ohio State and Michigan football eight miles from each other, with LSU right down the road, and Purdue 2 hours away.
Indiana and Kentucky basketball in the same place, with Louisville 30 min. away and Xavier 2 hours away.
UCONN, Syracuse and Georgetown…

I think David forgot to say “imagine” Ohio State and Michigan being 8 miles apart. Obviously they are not. Duke and Carolina are 8 miles apart, NC State is just 20 miles away and with the addition of Wake Forest being 2 hours away this makes Tobacco Road very special.
