Subway Scoundrel - I would recommend Oakwood Cafe as a good proxy for the Brazilian restaurant you described. You can get a very good steak, rice and salad for a good price. More Argentinian (and Cuban) than Brazilian, but a great place.

I agree with what has been said. This is needed plus more ethnic food that does not cost $25 bucks near downtown. I still say, we need a Brazilian cafe type place where you can get a hot meal (cheap steak and rice) and other items including Beer for a decent price. These are all over Sao Paulo and RIO. Building catty corner to the new RBC building in front of the parking city bus station parking garage would be perfect. Anyway, good near DT. Good Sat. lunch place.

Hawkins is right, we need some street food (ethnic even better) and I think this another step in the right direction.

I don't know their budget but that building needs help. I would love to see outside seating like Mellow Mushroom. Not every place has to have a parking lot in front.

One of the things downtown Raleigh is missing that is a key component of major livable cities in my opinion is street food. That may not be what this is going to be at all, but that is what I envisioned when I read this. Where it's located it's still not exactly in the core of downtown, but a good step in the right direction. The only things that come to mind when I think of fast food in downtown Raleigh are Char-Grill, Snoopy's, and maybe Armadillo Grill (haven't been there though; is it full service?). The Jasmin Bistro across from NC State is a great example of the kind of thing I would like to see downtown. There are several fast food places downtown (in addition to local staples like Sam and Wally's and others there are chains like Subway, Chick-Fil-A, and Quizno's), but they are only open for lunch. I think a real sign that downtown's population is really growing will be when there are places like that open for dinner every night as well. Often when I walk into town I want to get something to eat but don't want to spend the time going to a full service restaurant (especially alone) or sometimes the money either. When you are in a big city you know you can grab a quick slice of pizza or a sandwich on the go at any time. I remember living off of pretzels and currywurst in Germany and doner kebobs all over Europe. If somebody opens up a counter service restaurant selling any variation of doner kebob, you'll have at least one patron (me) there every week.
