Glenwood and Wade To Be Repaved

The NCDOT announced yesterday that they will soon be accepting bids to repave Wade and Glenwood Avenues. From mync.com’s article , Wally Bowman, a DOT Division Engineer said,”We would ideally like to be resurfacing roads between a 12- to 15-year cycle. There’s just not enough money to do all the roads during that cycle." Glenwood Avenue was last resurfaced in 1987, and is widely believed to be the worst driving surface in Raleigh. The repaving is expected to be completed by the end of June.

But there was enough money to repave Harvey, Johnson, and many other neighborhood roads ITB…

And there is enough money to build roundabouts at Hillsborough and Oberlin, but not enough to resurface major thoroughfares (yeah, I know, different pots of money, but the point remains.)

Alleghany Dr. in Country Club Hills is the worst driving surface in Raleigh. They appear to be repaving it now, but only in parts… which makes absolutely no sense to me. The whole thing needs to be ripped up and replaced.

I dunno, Chris, though Alleghany is a bad road. I’d love to live in Country Club Hills, but being a pedestrian in that neighborhood is extremely dangerous. I almost ran over John Edwards one day when we was jogging down the middle of Alleghany. Glad I missed him. Nobody would ever believe it was an accident.

Thank goodness they’re finally repaving Wade avenue. There are sections of it that look like Whack-A-Mole. (Maybe I’ll get my car realigned in celebration.)

I doubt Raleigh will EVER get around to repaving Lake Dam Road in West Raleigh. I don’t think it has been repaved since the 80s, and since then a residential neighborhood and three different apartment complexes have sprung up along the road between Tryon and Avent Ferry. It would be great if we could get a sidewalk and a bike lane (wishful thinking on the bike lane, I know) since Lake Johnson abuts the street near Avent Ferry. It would make walking down to the Lake much easier for all of us, and save us on tires.

Hmmm, let’s see… let’s build a $1B toll road (fees only pay about 2/3 of the cost) but there’s supposedly not enough money to repave the roads we already have (that have been around for 50 years). It’s like some of those run down trailer parks with a Lexus parked out front. Brilliant!

Anyway, glad they are finally getting around to it.

Chris- the roads you mentioned are mostly residential city streets, maintained by the City of Raleigh.
Glenwood and Wade are state-maintained secondary roads (SR’s), done by NC DOT.

How much of these roads are getting re-paved? They can’t possibly be talking about the entire stretch of Glenwood all the way to Durham County. I imagine the Wade project is the entire stretch ITB? Anyonw know?

Some people are getting groups together and making it their party. You can reserve different sections to be your party. One group of 25 is having their family reunion and one is having a birthday party. It’s going to be a lot of fun.
