Natty Greene’s Coming to Powerhouse Square
The site at 505 W. Jones St., formerly occupied by Southend Brewery and later Prime Only, will soon be home to Greensboro-based Natty Greene’s Brewing Company . The brewpub specializes in its own beer, and has a menu similar to that at Village Draft House (and its siblings). Full of perfect price point items, the menu is heavy on appetizers and sandwiches. The Greensboro location features a loft area that can be rented. Most likely the back right section of the Raleigh location will fit the bill well.
This sounds like a repeat of the Southend Brewery theme for the space. While Southend’s beer was about the only microbrew I’ve actually liked, their menu was far too ambitious. With much more affordable price points, that Natty Greene’s might just hit the spot for that site.

YESSSSS!
The question is, will they be in before Sidetrack or Boylan Street Brewpub is? It’s a race!
Any info on it’s targeted opening date?

Oooh Natty Greene’s in G’boro is a great spot. Their second floor has some fooseball, pool, and that game where you slide the little weight across a sandy board (?)…I hope they bring the game aspect of the restaurant into the new space!
As for the beer, it’s excellent. Really, it is. They have a nice variety as well - and they sell it by the 6-pack in G’boro and High Point grocery stores…so look for it on the shelves whenever NG’s gets established.

Thanks Dana. It is exciting to see that we will soon have 2 microbreweries within walking distance from each other. I’m also glad to see something going in that building. It is a great space.

Well considering Boylan Stree Brewpub has been getting built for the past 3 years, I doubt they’ll be done in time.
Natty Greene’s is awesome! Can’t wait to have the beer here in town.

I’m excited about another brewpub, but I’m glad I clicked on the menu link you provided because when you said it was similar to Village Draft House, I got worried. I do not like village Draft House food at all.

Opening Date is expected to be sometime around Fall 09 (should beat Boylan’s opening date, anyway). Really good beer, but then again so is Red Oak from G’boro. I have been told to expect a radical transformation of the current space.
Sidenote: It is named after Nathaniel Greene (so is Greensboro).
Maybe…..Walt Raleigh’s Brewing Co.!?!!

Natty Greene’s in G-boro is always packed. Their food is unspectacular, but their beers are fantastic. This would be a great addition if it comes to be.

As a Greensboro native I can say that Natty Greene’s is really cool with good simple food. But again, that space is huge and they will need quite a bit of steady busiiness to keep it full. And it is certainly subjective but I never liked Southend beer. And I can’t think of anyone I know that did.

I used to live in Greensboro and I missed Natty Greene’s. I love their beer and their food, esp. the burgers. Can’t wait til it opens!

Yesyesyesyesyes!!! This is so exciting that beer lovers in Raleigh are finally getting the businesses we need. Tomorrow night I’ll be enjoying some LoneRider porter, and hopefully soon I’ll have a couple of decent local brewpubs to go to.
Naming the place after one of the south’s favorite sons (the man who probably would have been our first President, had Washington fallen in battle) is a classy touch.

Kinda crazy, Dana, that that is the one micorbrew you have ever liked…what kind of beer do you normally drink? Have you ever been to Big Boss in Raleigh, or to Tyler’s in Durham? My guess is you would expand your horizons a bit and maybe open yourself up to some new tastes. Just a suggestion…

Mmmm… good lunch possibility since they’re heavy on the sanddwiches… validating parking would be FANTASTIC, too.

Natty Greene’s is a pretty nice spot in Gboro with tasty but not unique brews. Boylan Bridge is actually opening any day now according to their website. They have a menu posted and beer name and descriptions are included. Before you pee your pants over Natty Greene’s, give Boylan Bridge and a new local Raleigh joint a try first. I certainly plan too. By the way, the view from Boylan in awesome too.
